Standard skin and nail treatments
Standard charge for simple nail cutting and removal of corns, hard skin and minor providing normal foot health maintenance.
Reduction of very long, thickened and painful nails and large areas of hard skin and corns. Usually taking more time and attention to safely resolve.
Nail cutting for healthy nails and feet where no other medical or foot conditions are present. Subject to assessment. For those with otherwise healthy feet who struggle physically to reach their toes or to use nail clippers.
Deep and painful breaks to the skin around the heels. Usually as a result of heavy callused and dry skin splitting under pressure and sometimes bleeding. Hard skin removed, softened and where necessary splits are joined with medical adhesive and dressed. A follow up appointment is provided where necessary.
Assessment, debridement cleaning and dressing of wounds and ulcers to feet and toes. A referral for NHS treatment via the GP is arranged where ongoing treatment is required. Particularly for those with diabetes.
Where required, your Podiatrist can refer you for further investigations and evaluations or medication and treatment either through your GP or to other medical professionals.
A full annual neurovascular assessment for diabetic patients. Intended to determine the patient's current risk category based on the outcome of vascular and sensation testing along other factors affecting the foot such as deformity. A full medical and drug history is taken and a full treatment provided removing any callus, corn and dealing with any other issues identified that would lead to foot problems such as ulcers and infection.
Specialist treatment for painful nails
Gentle removal of a painful portion of nail without the need for surgery. Usually occurring from very curved, wide or fan shaped nails pinching the surrounding skin. Dressing and follow up appointment provided where required.
Removal of part or all of a painful, heavily ingrown toenail under local anaesthetic. Carried out in surgery only. Not available at home.
Removal of wart and veruccae
Debridement of overlying hard skin followed by applying a caustic chemical to react with the affected area. The area is dressed and padded. This remains in place for a number of days depending on the size, site and medical history. A follow up appointment is arranged to remove the. padding then debride and clean the site. Please note: Not all sites are suitable for this treatment and more than one treatment may be required to achieve complete resolution.
Application of a cryospray liquid at very cold temperatures to the site after removal of overlying hard skin. The area is dressed and padded. This remains in place for a number of days depending on the size, site and medical history. A follow up appointment is arranged to remove padding then debride and clean the site. Please note: Not all sites are suitable for this treatment and more than one treatment may be required to achieve complete resolution.
Subject to assessment and medical history. Overlying callus is removed and site cleaned and prepared. A commercially prepared caustic of Silver Nitrate with a demonstation is provided for the patient to self treat at home.
For large, stubborn veruccae that have failed to respond to other treatments. Carried out under local anaesthetic in clinic only. This is a soft tissue therapy involving puncturing the verucca with a sterile needle. For more information you can visit the veruccae section of Treatments from the pull down menu above.
Removal of fungal infections from nails and skin
Ideally used to preserve an otherwise undamaged nail with an underlying fungal infection at the nail bed. Multiple small holes are made in the nail plate allowing access to the skin beneath. An antifungal spray is applied, seeping into the spaces and held in place with a waterproof dressing. The patient will then continue to apply and dress the toe at home until the infection resolves. Please note: All fungal infection treatments can take months to fully resolve owing to nail regrowth rates.
Heavy fungal infections involving multiple toes with thickening and damage may be treated with a GP prescribed oral antifungal. Subject to medical history and nail testing, the required portion of nail is sampled by the Podiatrist and provided to the patient for testing via their GP. A referral letter is issued to request oral medication subject to a positive result.
For fungal infections involving up to toe nails, thickening damaged nails are reduced and reshaped to improve comfort and presentation. A topical antifungal solution is applied and provided for the patient to continue applying at home.
Prescription orthoses for pain relief, improved foot function and comfort
An assessment of the form and function of the feet and a simple analysis of walking to identify causes of pain, discomfort and altered or unwanted foot function. Involving a number of tests and measurements to allow a prescription to be written for suitable foot orthoses. The prescription and assessment results can be used to purchase orthoses with Aegis Podiatry or taken to another provider. A pair of pre-made, off the shelf orthoses provided by various manufacturers within individual foot conditions in mind. Relatively cheap but high quality. Types range from sports, everyday, dress/smart shoe and general. Following an assessment, your Podiatrist will recommend the best type.
A pair of high quality, prescription orthoses manufactured by a professional ortho laboratory. No foot impression or moulding is taken. The orthoses are produced to the individual patient's specifications as determined by the biomechanical assessment and prescription. A mid-range of budget orthoses pair giving the benefit of a prescription orthotic with the reduced cost of prefabrication.
An upper budget range, high quality bespoke pair of orthoses. Manufactured by a professional orthoses laboratory from a foam impression of the feet to the individual specifications of the patient's prescription. A long lasting, highly durable pair of orthoses intended for significant painful or difficult foot conditions.
An anti-inflammatory therapy for pain relief from very difficult or unresponsive foot conditions. A local injection of Depo-medrone, steroid and a local anaesthetic. A bespoke pair of soft poron material insoles made during the appointment. Used to reduce pain and pressure under the foot by providing additional cushioning in the shoes. Increases shock absorption and comfort.
Podiatrists are able to supply a number of prescription only medications relevant to foot treatments. These include antibiotics, pain relief, steroid based creams and more. These items will be provided when appropriate for an additional small charge. Speak to your Podiatrist for more information.
